Meet Education Requirements
Kansas requires proof of surveying experience and education in accordance with board rules and regulations (K.S.A. 74-7036). A board-approved land surveying curriculum is required. The specific curriculum was approved December 8, 2006 and is available on the KSBTP website. Progressive surveying experience must be demonstrated.
- 02
Pass the FS Exam and Obtain IS Certificate
Available nowThe NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying exam is computer-based, offered year-round at Pearson VUE testing centers. 110 questions, 6 hours. Upon passing and meeting education/experience requirements, the board may issue an Intern Surveyor (IS) certificate.
- 03
Gain Progressive Surveying Experience
Accumulate progressive surveying experience as defined by the board's rules. The KSBTP website provides an explanation of what constitutes 'progressive' surveying experience for application purposes. Experience must demonstrate increasing responsibility in field and office surveying activities.
- 04
Pass the PS Exam
Available nowThe NCEES Principles and Practice of Surveying exam is computer-based, offered year-round at Pearson VUE testing centers. Must be combined with satisfactory passage of all required examinations per board rules.
- 05
Apply for Licensure
Submit your application to KSBTP with all required documentation demonstrating education, experience, and examination qualifications. Any applicant who does not appear for an exam or fails must pay the fee again for a subsequent administration. Kansas law does not provide for refunds of application fees. Emeritus status is available for retired Professional Surveyors who wish to retain their professional title.
